Apparently 40% of British physicians refer patients to homeopathic doctors and almost 50% of Dutch physicians consider homeopathic medicines to be effective (Fisher and Ward, 1994). Britain maintained four homeopathic hospitals which are now embraced as integrative healthcare facilities.

In late 2011, the Swiss government's report on homeopathic medicine represents the most comprehensive evaluation of homeopathic medicine ever written by a government and was just published in book form in English (Bornhoft and Matthiessen, 2011). This breakthrough report affirmed that homeopathic treatment is both effective and cost-effective and that homeopathic treatment should be reimbursed by Switzerland's national health insurance program.

Homeopathy has a long and stellar history in the USA. Homeopathic Colleges and doctors were flourishing in the 19th century USA. New York and Boston's first medical colleges (founded 1863 and 1848) and for women were homeopathic schools. Boston University was founded in 1867, initially as the New England Homeopathic Medical College. Founded by Dr. David Thayer (homeopath and member of the Massachusetts state legislature), Otis Clapp (famous homeopathic pharmacist), and Daniel B. Stedman. The faculty at Harvard opposed the bill that was submitted to the state legislature to accept the charter of the college.

In the 1860s the AMA made it unethical for conventional physicians to consult with homeopathic physicians. Because so many of the most respected New York physicians were homeopathic physicians and because they were members of the New York medical society, this society did not accept the AMA dictum. As a result, the New York State Medical Society was expelled from the AMA in 1882 and were not admitted back until 1906.
