Having been born in Taiwan, growing up in Germany and having raised a family in Nova Scotia, I think of myself as a citizen of the world. When I was a teenager in Germany, I met a wise old man (Öpo) with a long grey beard. He was a German Heilpraktiker and he introduced me to homeopathy. That friendship with Öpo planted a seed that blossomed two decades later, when I moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia to study with my Buddhist teacher Chogyam Trungpa. In 1992, while pregnant with my second child, I started to delve into the alchemical world of homeopathy. After completing my studies in 1997, I opened up my practice - White Lotus Homeopathy - in Halifax.
My mother's brother and uncles were all practitioners of Chinese Medicine, and my intrepid Chinese mother always had a deep interest in this ancient healing form. However, when she begged her uncle to train her, he told her curtly: "Women don't do this".
So despite thousands of years of Chinese history that said "women-don't-do-this", I have the great fortune to be able to break the family tradition where only men were medical practitioners.
My work as a homeopath will introduce you to an approach and understanding of healing, sickness and health that is rooted in the alchemical tradition of European culture and the wisdom tradition of Eastern spirituality. At the same time, this holistic and gentle medicine is deeply relevant for our modern times.
